You will hear the drums before the parade comes into view. On Saturday, August 29, the 41st Asakusa Samba Carnival will transform Umamichi-dori and Kaminarimon-dori into a moving stage of live percussion, dancers and brilliantly designed costumes.
First held in 1981, the carnival brings the energy of Brazilian samba into the heart of historic Asakusa. The previous edition welcomed around 470,000 visitors, so a little planning will make the day much more comfortable.
【Event Highlights】
・Date and time: Saturday, August 29, 2026, from 1:00 PM. The start time may change.
・Parade route: From Umamichi-dori to Kaminarimon-dori in Asakusa.
・Viewing: General spectators watch from designated standing areas. Supporter seats are available through an ¥8,000 contribution on a first-come, first-served basis.
・Stay nearby: Senso-ji Temple is approximately a five-minute walk from OTHER SPACE Asakusa. Staying in the neighborhood makes it easy to explore the temple in the morning, walk toward the parade area early and return to the hotel without relying on a crowded train after the event.
・Crowds and summer heat: Arrive early, wear comfortable shoes and bring water, a hat and cooling items. Avoid blocking pedestrian routes while choosing a viewing position.
・Viewing rules: Selfie sticks, monopods, tripods, chairs and drones are prohibited along the general viewing course.
・Weather: The parade is scheduled to proceed in light rain. Check the official website before departure for possible time or operational changes.
